Junk-removal estimate diagram showing material inspection, lawful disposal and full-trip costing
The direct answerStart junk removal by defining accepted materials, confirming legal transport and disposal, and pricing the entire trip. Truck space alone does not determine cost: weight, access, labor, destination fees and prohibited materials can change whether a job is workable.

Your assumptions. Visible calculations.

Junk removal quote estimator

Defaults are original examples, not market rates or binding quotes. Include owner labor and all relevant costs once. Applicable taxes and unentered expenses are excluded.

Volume-only planning minimum: 2 loads. Weight and safe payload may require more loads. Enter the full job’s resulting disposal, travel and labor costs below; volume does not automatically change the price.

Modeled price per visit / job

$300.00
Worker labor
$90.00
Total entered cost
$225.00
Surplus before excluded costs and taxes
$75.00
Scenario total
$300.00

Cost = hours × workers × labor rate + materials + equipment + travel + overhead. Price = cost ÷ (1 − margin / 100). Scenario = unrounded price × visits. Margin is different from a markup on cost.

Write an accepted-materials list first

Choose a manageable scope such as inspected household furniture or ordinary nonhazardous cleanout items. Do not take unknown chemicals, asbestos-containing materials, sharps or other regulated waste on the assumption it is ordinary trash. Ask the destination what it accepts from commercial haulers before you promise removal.

Separate reusable items, recyclable materials and disposal loads where appropriate. Confirm donation acceptance in advance and have a fallback price if an item is rejected; do not promise a tax deduction.

Check DNR requirements and the destination

Wisconsin DNR says waste/recyclables haulers may need a transportation license and describes specific exemptions and material-dependent rules. The published standard fee is $77 plus $33 per listed vehicle when that license applies. An exemption from one license does not waive disposal rules or other obligations. Verify your exact materials and operation with DNR.

Build a startup budget around equipment you own

Original planning allowanceExisting pickup modelPickup plus trailer model
Dolly, straps, tarp and PPE$500$500
Additional trailer allowance$0$3,500
Registration/compliance placeholder$250$250
Initial insurance placeholder$500$700
Disposal/fuel cash reserve$400$600
Initial outreach$100$150
Illustrative subtotal$1,750$5,700

Replace every allowance with evidence

These are original hypothetical budgets, not price quotes or all-in minimums. They exclude truck purchase, repairs, owner pay, employee costs, storage and unentered tax or permit costs. Insurance and trailer prices can exceed the placeholders. Verify towing, load securement and driver requirements before buying a trailer.

Inspect before issuing a price

Record the item list, volume, estimated weight, stairs, carry distance, parking and disassembly. Ask for photos to screen a job, then verify material and access conditions before giving a binding quote. Price extra loads or unexpected materials only through an agreed scope-change process.

Worksheet example: two workers for 1.5 hours at $30 per worker-hour = $90. Add $80 disposal, $20 equipment/vehicle allowance, $15 travel and $20 overhead = $225 cost. At a chosen 25% margin the model is $300. These inputs are not dump-fee quotes or local rates. Obtain the facility’s actual fees and acceptance conditions.

Find repeatable work without skipping safeguards

Introduce a clear accepted-materials service to organizers, estate-service professionals, property managers and local shops. Ask about expected cleanout size, access and notice. Keep disposal records and issue itemized invoices so a commercial buyer can reconcile the work.

For heavy or awkward items, plan equipment and trained assistance instead of assuming a solo lift. Keep unsafe or unauthorized work outside the quote. Customer acquisition cannot compensate for a scope you cannot safely deliver.

Common questions

Can I use any public drop-off site? No. Confirm commercial eligibility, accepted materials, hours and fees with the facility.

Can I quote only by truck volume? Volume is one input. Dense material, stairs and travel can change cost and safe capacity.

Does the estimator create a binding quote? No. It is a planning worksheet; inspect the job and agree on scope and terms separately.

Make your next step easy to find

Explain accepted materials, service area and the information needed for an estimate on your website. A clear request form can reduce unsuitable inquiries without promising instant approval or a binding online price.
